VERY RARE SUPERB SUZUKI MASANAO???? JAPANESE WOOD CARVED FROG NETSUKE?? A rare work with the motif of "frog", which is synonymous with Masanao Suzuki. The first Masanao is said to be a master craftsman in Ise, and is known as a wood carver who was active in the late Edo period. Honesty's technique, which sublimated netsuke to the realm of art through minute expressions, was passed down to the second and third generations. Like netsuke, the figurines are mainly based on creatures such as frogs, monkeys, hawks, and raccoon dogs, but among them, there are many toads and toads because of the local puns associated with ``safely returning'' and ``getting a guest''.
