Opium Dens were common across China, Hong Kong, Paris, London and some cities in the United States. The open taking of Opium was widespread until the legislator's drove it underground.
The panel has a faux carved bamboo edge and carved in deep relief. The eyes are glass, a sure sign of quality, and the piece has been finished in black and cinnabar lacquer. There is fine detail, particularly in the clothing and it requires a clean but it is offered in original untouched condition. It dates to the mid 19th century. There has been a hanging loop affixed to the rear some time ago which has punctured the front slightly.
